Good evening to one and all. I guess it is only apropos to start off this blog’s (hopefully) long life with an homage to good Irish music, great Irish imbibitions, and the such. So here goes, and thanks for joining.
Tonight I was lucky enough to catch The Pogues perform at the Fillmore. Whilst their (drunken) set ended merely 90 minutes ago, or so, Dave and I caught some post-show chatty action with some of the Fillmo’ folks, and then, perhaps most notably, some incredibly fiery Korean food at a Korean BBQ place right next door. I think my mouth is still on fire.
The show was, as to be expected, mostly excellent. While the crowd was kinda thin (guestimate: 700 or so; 3/4 full), the band played a “Greatest Hits”-style set, featuring classics like “Dirty Old Town,” the one about the Greenland whale fishery (a personal highlight), and the great rag where everyone sings about being a “freeborn man in the U-S-A!” Good times were had by all.
The night’s highlights:
– Shane McGowan (perma-wasted. I am amazed his liver still functions, somehow)
– Spicy Korean BBQ Pork. Wow. My herbalogist is not gonna be happy
– Breaking in the blog with a drunkblogging episode
-Â I spent $2 for 2 concerts (forgot to mention I caught some of Joe Henry and band at the GAMH – good show!), lots of drinks, Korean BBQ and a good night!
– Biking fast in the overly warm SF night air.
That’s all for now, friends…..stay tuned.
